HOME SCHOOL TECHNICAL ISSUES
- What kind of computer and Internet access do I need?
- The K-12 Free Home School Program can be accessed using most computers that have the Windows operating system. Our home school curriculum was designed to run in a wide range of home computers. See our Minimum Requirements information.
- Will our home school program work with a Macintosh?
Several families have completed our home school program using Macs; however, we are unable to guarantee compatability with Macintosh computers. We optimize performance for Windows-based computers.- If a home school family enrolls more than one child, are multiple computers required?
- No. More than one computer is not required. Home school students can use the same computer as long as they log in and log out appropriately throughout the home school day; however, please note that the older a child is, the more likely they will want to spend more time online. And the more time available to them, then the more they can learn.
- How can PDF (Acrobat) files be read?
- You can read PDF files using Adobe's Acrobat Reader.
- What is online home schooling like?
- We use the Internet as a portal to new worlds of learning. We harness the power of this dynamic network of information and act as guides for your children. In our home school curriculum, your children will solve puzzles and mysteries; learn how to use new software applications, complete interactive online projects, and more. Not all of the curriculum content is completed online—we provide Video CDs and offline adventures and activities.
A majority of the home school course work itself is completed online. Your child will complete tests and quizzes online for easy grading. Using engaging video and audio material, your home school child will love learning like never before. We believe that learning should be more than just memorizing. Learning at The K-12 Free Academy will motivate your child to embrace learning in a variety of ways. - Can home school lessons be printed for review while off the Internet?
Yes! If your child prefers to read from paper, you can feel free to print off our home school course material. These materials must only be used by the student. Because of licensing and copyright laws, it is illegal to photocopy or distribute them in any way to any student not currently enrolled in K-12 Free Homeschool.- How can the progress of a home school student be checked?
- Home school parents can access their child's progress by viewing the hours of attendance in addition to the completed home school assignments and their corresponding grades.
- Does one need to be able to type in order to complete the home school work?
- You will find that your child will learn to type through using our home school program. In the meantime, "hunting and pecking" will do just fine.
